what's in a name.

ampersands + acrobats, aesthetics + epiphanies is quite a mouthful.  but there is reason for that crazy alliteration.  first of, might i say i am horrible with making decisions especially ones that are used to describe or promote myself.  for example, designing a logo, fixing my website, etc... i will never settle- which is partly why they aren't done yet.  ugh.  seriously i need to get on that.  that being said, this design will probably be changing quite frequently.  and so determining a name for this blog caused me anxiety.  i had a list with "ampersands + acrobats" separate from "aesthetics + epiphanies", but liked those 2 titles the best... so i just pushed them together.  surprisingly i am pleased and didn't want to change it immediately.

onto my reasoning... for those who stumble upon this blog and happen to read this post, an ampersand is the fancy typographic "and" (&) sign, that hangs out above the 7.  being a designer and complete type geek, it of course is one of my favorite type characters.  and so ampersand relates to myself as a graphic designer.  (and its a super cool word, right?)

aesthetics kind of makes sense then, don't you think?  as a designer i unfortunately look at life differently then i did 5 years ago- upon starting college- and tend to critique every little thing i lay my eyes on.  but thats okay, because i love me some eye candy.  so the uglies are totally worth the wait for some beautiful stuff, and there are infinite possibilities for beauty in this world.  i love color, unique relationships and compositions, weird juxtapositions... the word juxtaposition... the use of repetition, craft and everything handmade... those are some of my favorites anyway.

epiphanies.  or "piffs" as i like to call them are the wonderful ideas that come to me sporadically throughout the day.  they are awesome, i love them, and hope they never cease to exist.  some of my biggest projects have stemmed from epiphanies.  so i'm hoping that they will give me the best of luck with my latest endeavor, this blog.

now, i am no gymnast.  although i do miss my younger self who could run around on the mat, do some switch splits, backbends, and back handsprings on occasion.  so acrobats doesn't seem to fit with the other 3 words quite as evidently.  well, it does make sense to me though and here's why...  like i mentioned in the previous post, i have to be busy.  i accomplish more when i feel under pressure, when i have too many projects going on and secretly i know i won't be able to finish them all!  that sounds terrible.  but that's just how i am, and i know many others are the same.  therefore, acrobats relates to my busy self, my many projects, and the balancing act that is life.

so there you have it, my reasons behind the name.  by the way, i do not consider myself a writer by any means, but that is a lot of text.  i need some pics soon, bring some eye candy to this peachy pinky place!

happy birthday!

happy birthday little blog!

i have been wanting to start you for a while, but roadblocks along the way always seemed to prolong your arrival.  well enough procrastinating and excuses.  i saw a poster once that said, "a year from now you'll wish you would have started today."  so true!  today is the day!  i have big ideas for you, we shall see how many are actually accomplished...  unfortunately, in reality i am far too busy and stressed out to pay attention to you as much as i'd like too.  however, like most americans i must be busy and have too much on my plate in order to function... why do we do that to ourselves?  so, i'm hoping you will become a nice outlet for personal projects, inspiration, and creativity and a virtual getaway when the humdrum of every day life just isn't doing it for me.

so here's to you and me and our journey into the blogosphere, and to any friends we meet along the way.

cheers!
